An
introduction to Yiwu
Geographical situation / General
information
Yiwu is a middle-size city
(around 650000 inhabitants) located in the middle of Zhejiang province,
on the eastern part of the Jin Qu basin.
In Yiwu, the climate is moderate, with abundant rainfalls. The average
temparature is 17,4°C, the average annual rainfall is 1430mm, and
the humidity rate is 76%.
History of Yiwu
Yiwu
became a county in 2220 BC. It was named "County of Yiwu" in 624
AD.
Many famous poets and scholars have been inspired by the natural
landscape around Yiwu:
- Luo Binwang, one of the "Four outstanding
personalities" at the beginning of Tang dynasty;
- Zong Ze, the anti-Jin general (Song
dynasty);
- Zhu Danxi, one of the four doctors of the
Jin
and Yuan dynasties.
More recently, there has
been the educationist Chen
Wangdao, the literature theorician Feng Xuefeng, and the historian Wu
Han.
Yiwu has been known as the "Home of culture".
